Move-In Day at Bridge Meadows

When Jonathan Curtis managed Bridge Meadows in Redmond, one of his jobs was moving new residents in.

Bridge Meadows is a special place. It has 10 family homes and 26 apartments for elders. The families there are adopting or fostering kids who have been through foster care. The elders are their neighbors.

Curtis fixed things. He handled repairs. He hosted a community event every week. But he says move-in day was different from the rest.

A move-in is the first day a place becomes somebody's home. The keys work. The lights come on. Their things are inside.

Curtis knows what that day is worth. He was homeless at 19. He has not forgotten what it is like to not have a door of his own.

So he never treated a move-in like paperwork. For the person walking in, it might be the best day they have had in a long time.

The same idea at the Clerk's counter

That is how Curtis thinks about the Clerk's Office too. A marriage license. A deed to a first house. A ballot.

To the office, it is a form. To the person at the counter, it is a big day. Curtis wants it treated that way.

Jonathan Curtis is a candidate for Deschutes County Clerk in the November 3, 2026 general election.
