Autism, in Jonathan Curtis's Own Words
Jonathan Curtis says he is autistic, and he wants that part of himself included in his story. He also wants the portrait to make room for his work, family, Christian faith, and interest in public service.
Autism is not included here as a surprise or a publicity device. It is one aspect of how Curtis wants readers to understand him.
The U.S. Department of Labor emphasizes that autistic people's experiences and support needs vary widely (U.S. Department of Labor). Its employment guidance looks at access to recruitment, hiring, and onboarding rather than treating every autistic person as the same (U.S. Department of Labor). That individual approach fits a biography centered on Curtis's own words and actual responsibilities.
Curtis's own account begins with individual experience. He has described managing housing, leading a sales team, working as a firefighter, and helping operate a business. Those are the responsibilities he wants readers to consider.
Instead, his life offers actual subjects he can discuss. These include firefighting, housing work, managing a sales team, business ownership, family, and campaigns for office.
Curtis has experience appearing in online media and speaking publicly. That does not mean every viewer understood him or that every reaction can be explained by autism.
He says he is a follower of Jesus Christ and that faith is a big part of his life. His beliefs and his autism are both parts of his identity, not explanations that can be substituted for one another.
He also describes growing up with eight siblings and being a father. Those family relationships should remain private except for the experiences he chooses to share.
In work, Curtis says he values teaching beginners and giving people independence. Those leadership views add specific detail to a portrait that includes both his identity and the responsibilities he has chosen to carry.
His public-service interest also has a specific record: a 2024 Bend City Council candidacy and a 2026 Deschutes County Clerk campaign (Deschutes County election results) (Deschutes County elections). Autism is one part of this biography, alongside the choices and responsibilities he has discussed.
Sharing this part of his identity is Curtis's choice. He wants to be known as a whole person, including the work, beliefs, relationships, and ambitions he has named.
His request is simple and important: include autism as part of the full person he is, while allowing the rest of his life to remain visible too.
